DC Competition Teams (Dance)

Elite

This is for students with ADVANCED dance and performance skills (based on age) with the ability to learn, execute, and perform choreography at t fast pace. This is an extra competition group. Students in Elite groups will also be part of a larger competition team.

Competition

These classes may consist of a combo of ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical/contemporary, usical theatre, and hip hop. These groups are determined by audition only and are separated by age and skill level. They perform in the Winter Concert and Spring Recital and at least two competitions a year. They perform at Nationals when applicable. Competition is for ages 6-18. (To compete in these groups dancers must be age 6 turning 7 or have previously been in the 6s class)

Mini

This class is by teacher recommendation only and consists primarily of jazz technique and choreography. They perform in the Winter Concert and Spring Recital and at least two competitions a year. They perform at Nationals when applicable. Mini is for ages 4-6 (Dancers must have 1 year of dance experience)

These groups are also part of Dance Connection’s Competition Teams. They perform in the Winter Concert and Spring Recital and at least two competitions a year. They perform at Nationals when applicable.

AUDITIONS FOR ADAGIO AND MUSICAL THEATRE ARE SEPARATE FROM OTHER COMPANY AUDITIONS. THEY ARE TYPICALLY HELD IN THE FALL.

Dancers who are 6-18 years old with jazz experience and a passion for dancing and performing should audition for a DC Competition Team. Our company classes are designed to provide a more challenging dance experience for our students. If you are a dancer who is looking for a more challenging class, extra performance opportunities, or more class time you are ready to become a DC Competition Team Member. Requirements: 6-18 years old with jazz experience

2024/2025 Audition Camp

Requirements: 6-18 years old with jazz experience

Audition Camp May 21-23rd

Ages 6-8 years old: 5:00-6:30pm

Ages 9-12 years old: 5:00-6:30pm

Ages 13+: 6:30-8:00pm

Students will learn skills and technique needed for auditions during our audition camp. On the last day of camp, students will learn the routines they will audition with the following week.

2024/2025 Auditions

Tuesday, May 28th

Ages 6-8: 5:00pm

Ages 9-12: 6:00pm

Wednesday, May 29th

Ages 13+: 5:00pm

Elite Competition Team Auditions

Thursday, May 30th

Ages 6+: 5:00pm

Elite auditions are for students with advanced skills, technique, performance, and professionalism who are able to learn, retain, and PERFORM choreography at a fast pace. Elite auditions are for dancers who want a more intense dance training experience.

Students will audition with 3 routines that are learned the day of auditions.

The cost of audition is $105 per student

The cost for Elite Auditions is an additional $25

Process:

Students will audition with the dances learned during audition camp, in front of a panel of judges in groups of 3-5 students.

Each dancer can expect their audition process to last approximately 30 minutes. Some dancers may be asked to stay, come back later or return the next day.

For Elite auditions, the audition process will be at least an hour but could go up to 2 hours depending on your audition time.

Professionalism: The audition starts the moment the student walks in the door. Students behavior and respect towards staff & other students will be noted.

What to Wear:

Girls dress code: black leotard, black shorts or skirt, and pink tights, jazz AND tap shoes, hair in a bun,

Boys dress code: white shirt, black shorts/pants, and black dance shoes.

NOTE: The way you dress reflects how serious you are about being part of a DC Competition Team.

 Adjudication:

Students are scored on technique, performance, appearance, and professionalism (respect and behavior).

*Results will be emailed no later than 5:00pm, Sunday, June 2nd

Dance Connection also competes with small groups, trios, duets, and soloists in both dance and musical theatre. These are by teacher recommendation only. For information please see your teacher or Mrs Kathleen.
